sorry for taking forever to make a post and for not adding people until 2+ weeks after i said i would 😦 today was the first day of class but even the 2 weeks at mit before that felt infinitely busy
some notable things that happened:
- went to East Campus and CJ helped me learn how to use power drills to drill screws into wood!
- i did a 4-day bioengineering preorientation program (DBE) which was insanely inspiring (visited lots of labs in the area like koch + biotech companies and had cool talks about eg. engineering bacteria to clean up toxic waste or to convert co2 into electricity) and everyone was super friendly 🙂 at one point i thought i would major in course 20 (bioengineering) as a result but then i realized minoring is much more feasible and one recurring theme of the program was “you dont have to major in 20 to do bioengineering later” anyway so that is the plan now!
- finally did an escape room successfully
- first time actually watching a horror movie and i died
- auditioned for 5 mit a cappella groups (ohms centrifugues asymptones resonance syncopasian) singing “wish you were gay” and got into the first 2. i wasn’t sure which one to join until i stumbled upon this which was mind-boggling good! so i guess i’ll be doing a lot more singing and indian music now 🙂
- took a lot of ASEs (advanced standing exams) and managed to test out of 7.01x (intro to bio), 8.01 + 8.02 (physics mech + e/m), 18.01 + 18.02 + 18.03 (calc + multivar + diffeq), 6.0001 (intro to cs with python). i’m most happy about bio because i never took ap bio and knew around ~0 bio until july-ish when i started reading campbell intensively
- tried working out for the first time (update: and then a second time) with michael [diao], it was pretty fun though i became very sore the following 1-2 days and i probably have bad form
- signed up for classes! i’m taking 18.675 (theory of probability), 21m.030 (world music), 7.32 (systems biology), 6.046 (design/analysis of algorithms), 18.a34 (putnam seminar). i’m really happy with how this turned out and the lack of schedule conflicts 🙂 though i have 30-minute lunches for monday-thursday and idk how i’ll manage those yet. big thank-you to my advisor for letting me take 18.675, 7.32, and 6.046! (i technically don’t have the necessary prerequisites for any of these yet but it’s probably fine? idk)
i might not get to them for a while but suggestions on blog design, template, improvements, features to add, etc. are welcome! also, friendly reminder that you can follow this blog or subscribe via email to get notifications when i post
Wow, it’s quite impressive that you’re considering course 20 and taking 7.32 despite learning bio only in July!
lol i guess? no prerequisites- vincent
